How to use LFG

If you’d like to set up a session to play with others, we use https://sesh.fyi/ as a “Looking for Group” bot. Feel free to make events for anything you’d like to solicit help with!

LFG Roles

If you’d like to be notified whenever people are looking for a particular kind of group, Discord allows you to opt-in to various roles. By joining the server, you should have gone through an onboarding that asks this, but if you skipped that, joined before we added that feature, or want to change which roles you are a part of, this is how!

At the very top of the server, there will be a “Channels & Roles” tab. Click that:

At the time of this writing, this will give you two sets of questions, one for channels, and one for roles:

Simply pick the roles you’d like, and you’ll be notified if people are trying to fill an event.

Timezone settings

Timezones are the bane of software developers everywhere. Sesh is no different. You’ll probably want to at least double check these preferences are set up correctly.

First, log in to sesh.fyi. In the upper right. click the carat and choose “preferences”:

From here, you want to double check that the first two preferences are set up to your preference:

The first should be the primary timezone you’d like to use for the server. The second you want set to “personal”, which means when creating events, when you say things like “tomorrow at 9:30pm” sesh knows that you’re talking about your current timezone. You may think you know your own timezone, but are you sure you remember if it’s daylight savings time or not?

Creating a Destiny Raid LFG

If you’re interested in making an LFG for a raid in Destiny 2, you can use a slash command. Go to the #lfg channel and type /create. Hit tab and you’ll get this:

Fill out the title, type in a date, and also consider hitting tab one more time and filling in a description.

Folks in the Discord will see this:

The idea for each of these roles:

  • Committed: I want to attend this raid. There’s a limit of six people to a raid, but if you want to be first in line for filling in case someone drops, click “Committed” anyway and it should list you as an extra.
  • Backup: I would like to attend this raid, but maybe cannot for some reason. If by the time the raid starts, there aren’t six people in Committed, folks in Backup will be pinged in the order they signed up to fill out the raid.
  • Ping If Needed: I do not need anything from this raid, but want to help out if you can’t get a full fireteam together, let me know if you need me.

Creating a different LFG

If you’re making an event for something that’s not a raid, you can use the sesh website to create a totally custom event.

Pinging Roles

If you want to make sure that people see your event, you can choose to ping one of the various LFG roles that we talked about at the start. Sesh won’t yet ping automatically, but if it’s a few days out and your event hasn’t filled yet, you may want to actively ping these roles to help get some visibility.

That’s all, folks!

As always, if you have any questions or need help with any of this, please ping stat. Playing together is one of the best parts of video games, so I want to make sure we have tools to do so in a nice way 🥰
